Observation information
- Target: B0329+54
- Observation: 2023-12-06 (MJD 60284)
- 0.256 ms sampling, 1024 frequency channels
Target information: B0329+54
- Peak flux density = 178 Jy at 327 MHz, 13 Jy at 1.5 GHz (Esamudin et al. 2000)
- Mean flux density = 1.5 Jy at 400 MHz (ATNF catalog)
- Radio profile

Profiles of B0329+54 at different frequencies. Figure adapted from Shang et al. 2017.
- SNR estimation
- SEFD of each black LPDA antenna ~ 1 MJy
- 16 antennas, 128 phase bins, 1024 channels
- $S = \frac{\rm 1~MJy/16}{\sqrt{2\cdot(\rm 400 ~MHz/1024) \cdot (t_{\rm integ})/128}}$ = $1131 / \sqrt{t_{\rm integ}}~ \rm Jy$
- If integration time = 15 min, S = 27 Jy (SNR ~ 5)
- Channel binning to 64 channels, S = 7 Jy (SNR over 15)
Data analysis
-
Calculate (beam / time average) and (incoherent beam / time average)
- As it is divided by the time average, the values are in units of SEFD.
- histogram of 1-sec data (click the arrow to see figures)
-
Subtract the incoherent beam (i.e., $\rm \frac{beam}{time ~ average} - \frac{incoherent ~ beam}{time ~ average ~ of ~ the ~ incoherent ~ beam}$) and compare it with radiometer equation
- From the radiometer equation, $\sigma = 1/\sqrt{d\nu \, dt} = 0.1$
⇒ A 3-sigma cut was applied
- Histogram (click the arrow to see figures)
-
Dedispersion and folding
- Incoherent dedispersion with DM = 26.7641
- Folding with polyco for the Fushan main station
- $\nu = 1.39954~ \rm s \, s^{-1}$ ($P = 714.52 ~\rm ms)$, $\dot{\nu} = -4.012 \times 10^{-15}~\rm s^{-1}$, $\ddot{\nu} = 5.3 \times 10^{-28}~\rm s^{-2}$ on MJD 60284 (data from ATNF catalog)
- Geographic coordinate of the Fushan6 site: lat, long = +24.7564, 121.5817, elevation=650 meters
- A time conversion table to convert the local time at the Fushan site to solar barycentric time was obtained using tempo2.
- N_phase = 128
